IA9110 Transition Brief for MRO Organizations
AS9110 is the aerospace quality management standard for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organizations. As part of the IAQG's move to a common "IA" identity, it is expected to become IA9110, following the same revision cycle as IA9100.
This brief is Paradygm Consulting's commentary; final requirements will be those in the published IA9110 and IAQG transition guidance.
Expected timeline (estimate)
The IA9110 timing is expected to track the IA9100 family. Based on the most recent information available to us (May 2026):
- Late 2026 — expected publication of the revised family.
- Around 1 January 2027 — audits to the new standards expected to begin.
- Roughly through 2029 — transition window.
Confirm the exact IA9110 dates with your CB and the IAQG; family members may not move in perfect lockstep.
Focus areas for MRO
- Alignment with ISO 9001:2026 — changes in the base standard flow through. See ISO 9001 alignment.
- Regulatory interface — make sure your quality system and your regulatory approvals (for example, Transport Canada, FAA or EASA approvals) stay consistent. IA9110 does not replace regulatory requirements.
- Human factors — fatigue, communication, shift handovers and error reporting remain central in maintenance.
- FOD prevention and tool control — particularly during closures and engine work. See operational planning themes.
- Counterfeit and suspect unapproved parts — removed parts, surplus and documentation gaps are common risk points. See counterfeit parts prevention.
- Maintenance records and data integrity — including information security for technical data and electronic records.
- Competence and authorization — training, authorizations and recurrent training records.
Preparation checklist
- Obtain IA9110 and IAQG transition guidance when published.
- Brief the accountable manager and quality leadership.
- Run a gap assessment against IA9110 and your regulatory obligations.
- Update procedures, maintenance planning tools and training.
- Perform an internal audit and management review.
- Schedule your transition audit with your CB.
