IA9100 Certification Path: What to Ask Your Certification Body
Certification to IA9100 is granted by an accredited certification body (CB) operating under the IAQG's aerospace certification scheme. Paradygm Consulting is not a certification body and does not issue certificates. We help organizations prepare; your CB performs the audit and makes the certification decision.
Who is involved
- IAQG — develops the standards and sets the rules of the aerospace certification scheme, including transition requirements.
- Accreditation bodies — accredit CBs to audit within the scheme.
- Certification bodies — audit your organization and issue certificates.
- OASIS — the IAQG's Online Aerospace Supplier Information System, where certificate and audit information for the scheme is recorded.
- Consultants such as Paradygm — help you understand requirements, close gaps and audit internally. Consultants should not be the same people who certify you.
Typical path for an existing AS9100D certificate holder
- Confirm the official transition rules with your CB once IA9100 is published.
- Run a gap assessment and implement changes.
- Operate the updated system long enough to generate records.
- Complete an internal audit and management review against IA9100.
- Undergo a transition audit, which your CB may combine with a surveillance or recertification audit.
- Close any nonconformities within the timeframes set by your CB.
- Receive your IA9100 certificate and confirm the OASIS record is updated.
Typical path for first-time certification
If you are not yet certified, ask your CB whether it makes sense to certify directly to IA9100 once audits begin (expected from around 1 January 2027). Building to the new standard can avoid a second transition shortly after initial certification.
Questions to ask your certification body
- When will you begin offering IA9100 (or IA9110/IA9120) audits?
- What is the final date by which our transition must be complete?
- Can the transition be combined with our next surveillance or recertification audit?
- How many additional audit days do you expect for the transition?
- What evidence will you expect to see (for example, internal audit and management review against IA9100)?
- How will multi-site or campus structures be handled?
- What happens if we cannot complete the transition before the deadline?
- How and when will our OASIS records be updated?
- How should we refer to our certification status during the transition?
Expected timeline (estimate)
- Late 2026 — expected IA9100 publication.
- Around 1 January 2027 — audits expected to begin.
- Roughly through 2029 — transition window.
These are estimates based on IAQG information as summarized in May 2026 and may change. The IAQG is the authority; your CB confirms what applies to you.
