IA9100 Release Date: What AS9100D Organizations Need to Know
Updated October 30, 2026 · Paradygm Consulting
The IA9100 release date has moved. Our certification body partner, Amtivo (formerly Orion Registrar), has indicated that the latest communication from the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) puts the release of IA9100, IA9110 and IA9120 at around March to April 2027.
That is later than the "late 2026" estimates that circulated earlier. This update explains what is confirmed, what is still unknown and how to plan your AS9100 to IA9100 transition.
Key takeaways
- Expected IA9100 release: around March–April 2027*, per certification body guidance citing the IAQG.
- IA9110 and IA9120 are expected in the same window.
- Transition period: not defined yet. Certification bodies will not know the structure until the IAQG releases the standards.
- Your AS9100D certificate stays valid. AS9100D certification continues as normal through 2027.
- Start now with ISO 9001:2026, which was published in September 2026 and forms the base of IA9100.
When will IA9100 be released?
There is still no official IAQG publication date. The best current guidance is around March to April 2027*.
Amtivo has told us that certification bodies will not know when or how the transition timelines will be structured until the IAQG releases the standards. Amtivo will notify all of its aerospace certified clients once those details are known.
* Estimated dates. IAQG has not yet published an official publication date or transition deadline; this estimate reflects certification body guidance and is subject to change.

Why the IA9100 release date moved to 2027
The IAQG originally planned to publish the revised 9100 series in 2026, in step with ISO 9001.
The aerospace standards are built on ISO 9001. The IAQG has been waiting for the ISO base text to be final before releasing the aerospace version. ISO 9001:2026 was only published in mid-September 2026, so a spring 2027 release for IA9100 follows that sequence.
Industry commentary also reports that the IAQG has dropped an earlier two-step plan (a limited release followed by a full revision) in favour of one major release. The IAQG has not formally announced this.
How long will the IA9100 transition period be?
Nobody knows yet, including certification bodies. Until the IAQG publishes its transition rules:
- Don't plan around deadlines you see online. Quoted windows range from about 13 months to three years. None are official.
- Use history as a guide only. AS9100D was published in September 2016, and the IAQG set the transition deadline for September 15, 2018, about two years later.
- Expect your certification body to contact you. Your transition audit will usually fit into your normal surveillance or recertification cycle.
If you hold both ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D, the ISO 9001:2026 deadline of September 30, 2029 already applies to your ISO 9001 certificate. Ask your certification body how it will sequence the two transitions. Our IA9100 certification path guide lists the questions to ask.
AS9100D certification in 2027: what stays the same
Your AS9100D certificate remains valid until its expiry date and through whatever transition period the IAQG sets.
Surveillance and recertification audits will continue to AS9100D until your certification body is ready to audit to IA9100. No one can certify you to IA9100 before it is published, so treat any "IA9100 certified" offer today with caution.
Separately, in October 2026 the IAQG aerospace certification scheme was brought under the Global Accreditation Cooperation (Global ACI) recognition arrangement. This changes the accreditation framework behind aerospace certificates. It does not change any existing AS9100D certificate.
IA9100 vs AS9100D: what is expected to change
The final text is not public. The IAQG has indicated that requirements are being strengthened in these areas:
- Product safety, with existing notes expected to become requirements
- Information security (including cyber) and data protection
- Leadership, quality culture and ethics
- Advanced product quality planning (APQP)
- Counterfeit parts prevention
- Sub-tier supplier controls and flow-down of requirements
Industry discussion also points to foreign object debris (FOD) prevention and measurement system analysis (MSA). For a fuller comparison, see IA9100 key changes vs AS9100D.
What about IA9110 and IA9120?
AS9110 (maintenance, repair and overhaul) becomes IA9110, and AS9120 (stockist distributors) becomes IA9120. Current guidance places both in the same March–April 2027 window as IA9100.

How to prepare for the AS9100 to IA9100 transition now
A spring 2027 release gives you about five months before the standard is even published. Use the time well:
- Keep your AS9100D system running normally. Your next audits are still to AS9100D.
- Start with ISO 9001:2026. Its changes (quality culture, separate treatment of risks and opportunities, change management) carry straight into IA9100.
- Strengthen known focus areas. Counterfeit parts, FOD, product safety and supplier controls are already AS9100D topics.
- Brief leadership and budget for 2027. Plan a gap assessment, training and an internal audit for the second half of 2027.
- Follow a structured plan. Our AS9100 to IA9100 transition guide walks through each step.
IA9100 release date FAQ
When is the IA9100 release date?
There is no official IAQG release date yet. The latest guidance from our certification body partner, Amtivo (formerly Orion Registrar), citing the IAQG, points to around March to April 2027 for IA9100, IA9110 and IA9120.
Is my AS9100D certificate still valid?
Yes. AS9100D is still the current edition. Your certificate stays valid until its expiry date and through the transition period the IAQG eventually sets.
How long will the IA9100 transition period be?
It has not been defined. Certification bodies will not know the structure of the transition until the IAQG releases the standards. Be cautious about any specific deadline quoted online.
Will IA9110 and IA9120 be released at the same time as IA9100?
Current guidance indicates IA9100, IA9110 and IA9120 are all expected around March to April 2027.
Should we wait for IA9100 before preparing?
No. ISO 9001:2026 is already published and forms the base of IA9100. Working on its changes now, and on the known aerospace focus areas, is preparation that will not be wasted.
